Explore Jefferson’s Bordeaux & support La Cité du Vin

Join us for a memorable small-group fundraising trip this October 9-12 in Bordeaux, France. Included in the trip fee, your tax-deductible charitable contribution of $2,000 will support the educational programming at the unique Cité du Vin museum and cultural center.

We will explore Bordeaux through the lens of young Ambassador Thomas Jefferson and, of course, visit La Cité. This specially curated trip will include visits with the winemakers and château owners who cultivate and preserve the wines beloved by the young ambassador. Most notably, our visits will include exclusive tours and tastings at the prestigious Châteaux: Haut-Brion, Margaux, d’Yquem, Carbonnieux, Smith Haut-Lafitte, Kirwan, and Lafite Rothschild.

Here are the highlights of our itinerary:

• Our trip begins on October 9 with an inspiring walking tour of the city, following in Jefferson’s footsteps. It culminates with a VIP reception at the historic Hotel Fenwick, once home of the first United States Consulate.
• Château Haut-Brion is our first stop on day two and will host a winemaker’s tour of La Mission, followed by a luncheon at the magnificent Pavillon Catelan with Mr. Jean-Philippe Delmas. In the afternoon, we will visit Château d’Yquem and enjoy the famed Sauternes, which Jefferson ordered for himself and George Washington.
• On October 11, we will explore two historic properties in the Graves region: Château Carbonnieux and Château Smith Haut-Lafitte. Later in the day, we will enjoy a special guided tour of La Cité du Vin and the Thomas Jefferson Auditorium, a beautiful multi-purpose venue proudly sponsored by AFCDV.
• We will visit two esteemed properties in the Haut Médoc region on October 12: Château Kirwan and Château Margaux. The Margaux team will welcome us for a tour and a special lunch on the property. We will end our day welcomed by the team at Château Lafite Rothschild in Pauillac.

The trip will cost $5,500 per person, not including hotel accommodations and airfare/travel to Bordeaux. Space is limited for this exclusive (small group) tour, and rooms have been reserved beginning on October 8 at the newly-opened 5-star boutique Hotel Villas Foch, the historic Hotel des Quinconces, and the famed InterContinental Bordeaux, centrally located in the heart of Bordeaux and steps from Le Jardin Public.
