New York, NY, Friday, January 1, 2021– American Friends of Cité du Vin is pleased to announce an exciting new speaker series that will give attendees the opportunity to learn from and interact with sought after sommeliers. With the COVID-19 pandemic pushing everyone to adapt, AFCDV plans to use Zoom to bring exclusive conversations about wine to your home.

AFCDV is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2015 to support the unique new interactive cultural center La Cité du Vin, located in Bordeaux, France. Passionate about wine and the art of viticulture, AFCDV’s members play a vital role in supporting education and cultural programs dedicated to wine history, the environment and the extraordinary people behind the wines. Starting on Wednesday, January 20 at 7pm ET, members and guests will be able to share the rare opportunity of discussing wines with top sommeliers. Designed as an informal and interactive speaker series, the “Somm Series” kicks off with featured sommeliers Jeff Harding, Beverage Director at the Waverly Inn; and Carrie Lyn Strong, Founder of Strong Wine Consulting.

In a one-hour interactive discussion, Jeff Harding and Carrie Lyn Strong will share secrets on helpful wine vocabulary, how to navigate a fine wine dining list, and how to communicate with a sommelier. With a focus on finding value in selecting wine, Harding and Strong will lead participants through how to find the perfect wine pairing. Attendees are invited to ask questions about wine lists and fine dining in this unique opportunity to speak informally with experts. Both veterans of Michelin guide-featured restaurants, Harding and Strong will demystify the wine pairing process in an engaging discussion. Guests will be given the opportunity to purchase wines selected by Harding and Strong at a discount through Tribeca Wine Merchants.

More information about this event and future installments of the “Somm Series” is available on AFCDV’s website, www.afcdv.org . Guests can choose to purchase a tax-deductible ticket to the event at a cost of $65 per person or gain access to this and other special programs through AFCDV’s newly launched membership program. Memberships are available for young
professionals as well as for wine connoisseurs looking for an exclusive passport to rare and special events, entry to private châteaux, travel and opportunities exploring the world of wine. Additional events hosted by the Cité du Vin in the AFCDV-funded Thomas Jefferson Auditorium will be announced soon.

“Wine’s impact on the arts, music, ecology, and of course the everyday enjoyment of life is at the core of the Cité,” said George Sape, President of American Friends of Cité du Vin and former Chairman of the James Beard Foundation. “We, the American Friends, are there to help its mission, and we hope that these special programs will inspire a new generation of wine enthusiasts.”
