New York, NY, Monday, January 25, 2021– American Friends of the Cité du Vin (AFCDV) is proud to invite seasoned oenophiles and budding wine aficionados to join its newly launched membership program. AFCDV members will enjoy rare and exclusive experiences of a lifetime focused on global wine & food destinations, access to vintages that are treasured and coveted, entrée to private châteaux and properties, and invitations to wine tastings and culinary events with top chefs. Members and interested guests can also attend AFCDV’s virtual “Somm Series,” an informal chance to learn from and speak with top sommeliers.

American Friends of Cité du Vin is a 501(c)(3) organization that raises public awareness of and support for La Cité du Vin, a center in Bordeaux, France, dedicated to the history and culture of wine. Members play a vital role by supporting educational exhibits and programs dedicated to wine culture, history, environment, and the stories of the extraordinary people behind the wines enjoyed around the world.

After a successful virtual event with top sommeliers Jeff Harding and Carrie Lyn Strong, AFCDV is pleased to present additional installments of the “Somm Series.” Somm Series event registration and access to recordings are free to AFCDV members. On February 4, Yannick Benjamin, Head Sommelier of The University Club, will lead guests on a journey through a celebrated but lesser known region of Bordeaux producing many lovely affordable wines. On February 24, participants will discover the hidden gems of the Marsannay area in the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy with Raj Vaidya, Wine Consultant and Director of Operations for La Paulée de New York, the world’s foremost Burgundy Wine festival. Additional virtual events will be added in the spring, and a trip to California wine country with exclusive behind-the-scenes access is on the horizon for later in the year.

Those interested can go to afcdv.org/events or afcdv.org/memberships. Membership tiers include a special young ambassadors category. Exciting members-only travel events and other opportunities to explore the world of wine, sustain vital support for the Cité du Vin education, cultural programming, and the Thomas Jefferson Auditorium in Bordeaux.

“The Cité du Vin is the embodiment of wine in its fullest sense, a home for the role wine plays in the life of society since earliest history,” said George Sape, President of American Friends of Cité du Vin and former Chairman of the James Beard Foundation. “Its focus on wine’s impact on the arts, music, ecology, and of course the everyday enjoyment of life is at the core of the Cité. We, the American Friends, are there to help its mission, and we invite you to join us.”
