AFCDV Features a Century of Calon Ségur Wine at Le Bernardin

NEW YORK CITY- On Thursday, April 28, 2022, American Friends of the Cité du Vin welcomed 18 guests at Le Bernardin for a rare wine dinner featuring a century of Calon Ségur.  Guests enjoyed a custom menu created by Michelin three-star Chef Eric Ripert, perfectly paired thanks to renowned sommelier Aldo Sohm. AFCDV President George Sape and Board Member Michael Katz served as co-hosts, and Consul General of France in New York Jérémie Robert joined for the occasion.

Chef Ripert’s unique six-course menu was paired with over 20 vintages of Calon Ségur, from 1918 to 2010. Guests brought home a piece of “terroir” from Calon Ségur, in the form of pebbles from the vineyard in keepsake leather pouches.

AFCDV President George Sape said, “This was a unique event, featuring a 100-year retrospective tasting of Chateau Calon Ségur. Chef Eric Ripert produced brilliant dishes to merge with the wines of this venerable property. Aldo Sohm and his team presided over the wines in impeccable fashion. It was truly a night to remember!”

Proceeds from this benefit dinner support AFCDV, a 501(c)(3) organization that raises public awareness of and support for La Cité du Vin, a cultural center in Bordeaux which explores the history of wine and its unique role in culture. This year, AFCDV is proud to support the ambitious temporary exhibition at La Cité, Picasso, the effervescence of forms. The exhibit features over 80 works (many loaned by Musée National Picasso-Paris and the Museu Picasso de Barcelona) of art in multiple media including paintings, ceramic and films.
